Book Printing Agreement
Book
Printing Job Request
Authors
with completed manuscripts who are ready to go to press may file a Book
Printing Services Job Request. Author will be contacted by our staff for
a free consultation to discuss custom options and identify the most cost effective
solution.
Manuscript
Author submits
final version of manuscript including all chapters and any applicable table
of contents, acknowledgement, introduction, forward, prologue, epilogue, biography,
booklist, product/service promotionals or photos. Author is responsible for
completeness and accuracy of copy before submitting manuscript. Any content
changes after submission of manuscript will result in additional fees. Submit
manuscript as email attachments, on CD or on 100MB/250MB zip disk double-spaced
in Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect or rich text as files of type .doc, .wpd
or .rtf. Author is also required to mail manuscript hardcopy for editorial
proofing to our prepress department in Phoenix. Failure to submit manuscript
in hardcopy format will result in additional fees.
Digital
File Prep Quotes, Editing,
Proofs & Approvals
Upon review of manuscript, Star Quest Publishing sends
Author a quote for digital file prep based on estimated number of pages and
optional custom artwork along with sample layout of the first chapter. Author
may use sample layout to judge the level of editorial modifications to expect
in finished publication. Manuscripts will be edited by Star Quest Publishing
for spelling, grammar and punctuation to meet professional publication standards.
Body text will be formatted in Times New Roman as the typesetting standard
for readability and compactibility. Author understands that requesting layout
in any other font will result in a greater number of pages / higher printing
cost. Rights for photos or any copyrighted artwork to be used in cover design
or book illustrations are negotiated between the Author and the individual
artist. To begin digital file prep, Author will sign quote to indicate acceptance
and return to Star Quest Publishing along with deposit payment for first half
of quoted fees. Any design or layout changes after quote acceptance will result
in additional fees. If Author declines quote, all design rights remain with
Star Quest Publishing.
Upon quote acceptance, Star Quest Publishing will complete all cover and text
files and send hardcopy of the final document in finished book format for
Author's approval. Spine width is calculated in 8-page increments, therefore
final publication will sometimes contain intentional blank pages. Any manuscript
changes after editorial proofing will result in additional fees. To begin
press and bindery operations, Author will sign final prepress statement to
approve document and return to Star Quest Publishing with payment for prepress
balance due (2nd half of quoted fees). Star Quest Publishing will release
all required press-compatible digital files and proofs to Overseas Printing
Corporation to begin book manufacturing. Digital file preparation generally
takes four weeks to complete.
Press
& Bindery Quotes, Proofs & Approvals
Upon submission of digital files for book manufacturing, Author will receive
press and bindery quote for Overseas Printing Corporation. Press and bindery
quote will be based on number of pages, book quantity, colors used and optional
custom tooling (e.g. metallic gold embossed title on the cover requires special
die stamp manufacturing). Book manufacturing specifications will follow industry
standards unless otherwise specified by Author. Author may request sample
of industry standard page stock, cover stock and laminate coating. Author
will sign acceptance for press & bindery quote and return to Overseas
Printing Corporation along with deposit payment for quoted fees. Press and
bindery operations generally take four weeks to complete and two-three weeks
for shipping. Upon completion of press and bindery operations, Author will
be contacted for balance due to authorize shipment. Overseas Printing Corporation
will ship book inventory in cartons to storage facility specified by Author.
Author is responsible for reading and understanding the terms
and coindtions of this agreement before submitting a job request. Cover and
layout design may not be reproduced outside of contracted publication without
written permission from Star Quest Publishing. In the case that Author declines
quote, all design rights remain with Star Quest Publishing.
